With the increasing use of technology in all aspects of society, creative and productive use of ICT is an essential skill for life.
ICT capability is fundamental to participation and engagement in modern society. ICT can be used to find, develop, analyse and present information, as well as to model situations and solve problems.
ICT is split into 3 elements. Information Technology and Digital Literacy were the main foci of the old ICT curriculum however Computer Science is becoming increasingly more important, this is concerned with the design, implementation and principles underlying computing systems. This is an element we have already included in our scheme of work.
ICT plays an important part in education at Ralph Sadleir. All pupils have a 1 hour discrete ICT lesson each week in the, recently updated, ICT suite. Here they all have access to their own computer. Lessons are taught by class tutors in Yr 5 and by the Head of ICT in Yrs 6, 7 & 8. As well as being taught as a separate subject it is used in all curriculum areas to enrich the pupil’s learning experience. Children have access to computers around the school in their lessons as well as being able to use the suite at lunchtime with teacher supervision.
The school is well equipped to embrace the challenges of today’s technological world. The ICT suite has 31 intel i3, Windows 7 Education Specific Workstations and another 30 located around the school. Children also have access to interactive whiteboards, digital cameras, digital film cameras, digital voice recorders, Lego robots as well as digital sensors.
All children are given email addresses on entering the school and are encouraged to use it for all school based curriculum work.
Children will use a range of software throughout their time at school. Some of which are available for them to download for free and use at home.
These include: Photostory3, Windows Moviemaker, Audacity and Scratch
Others include the range of Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher and Access
