The form, with its own form tutor, is the basis of the school organisation and throughout the school, the form tutor is responsible for the pastoral care and welfare of the students in his/her own form.
Each of the four year groups has its own experienced teacher as Head of Year. The average size of a form is twenty-eight. In Hertfordshire the County Middle Schools are deemed Secondary and, as such, enjoy a very favourable student/teacher ratio.
When students join the school they are placed in mixed ability classes for the majority of lessons. Generally, students remain in these classes for the four year course but as they progress through the school students will have a new form tutor at the beginning of each academic year.
