Overview
The Secretary of State for Education lays down the following terms and conditions on which assistance is given in relation to the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) payable to schools and local authorities for the financial year beginning 1st April 2015. PPG provides funding for two policies:
- raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities to reach their potential
- supporting children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces
At Ralph Sadleir School, we currently do not have pupils on roll with parents in the regular armed forces.
In 2015/16 the Pupil Premium Grant was projected from the Spring Term School Census which was submitted to the Department of Education (DFE) in January 2015. It includes pupils who are known to have been eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) in any of the previous 6 years (i.e. since Summer 2009), as well as those pupils first known to be eligible at January 2015.
The Number of Pupils on Roll (NOR) at the date of the School Census was 330. The number of pupils confirmed eligible for Pupil Premium Grant by DFE was 40 (12.12 %).
The amount of Pupil Premium Grant per pupil for 2015/16 is:
- £1,320 for primary-aged pupils (KS2)
- £935 for secondary-aged pupils (KS3)
In April 2016, funding will remain the same as 2015/16.
The Academy Trust also receives £1,900 for each pupil who:
- Has been looked after for 1 day or more
- Has been adopted from care
- Has left care under:
- A special guardianship order
- A residence order
- A child arrangement order
The number of pupils confirmed eligible for adopted from care funding by DFE was 7 (2.12% of NOR). Total number of pupils eligible for PPG is 47.
Finance
Pupil Premium Grant is funded by the DFE from April to March annually. As an Academy Trust, the financial year runs from September to August annually. Therefore, part of the Pupil Premium Grant falls into two financial years i.e. Pupil Premium Grant funding from April 2015 to March 2016 will fall into the Academy Trust financial years 2014/15 and 2015/16 and Pupil Premium Grant funding from April 2016 to March 2017 will fall into the Academy Trust financial years 2015/16 and 2016/17.
In April 2015, the DFE confirmed the total number of pupils eligible for Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) was 47. As at April 2016, this decreased to 42 pupils.
In July 2016, there were 8 pupils receiving Pupil Premium Grant who left the school. In September 2016, 20 new pupils joined the school; Funding for this group of pupils will be received by the school in April 2017. Projected number of eligible for PPG in 2016/17 is 62.
The total annual projected Pupil Premium Grant allocated by the DFE for April 2015 to March 2016 was £58,040.
The ‘Ever 6 FSM’ projected funding from DFE for 2015/16 breakdown is:

In the Autumn Term 2015, we identified 8 pupils who joined our Academy in Year 5 but Pupil Premium Grant will not be received until April 2016. This is equivalent to £6,160 of funding that will not be received by the school.
There are 9 pupils who left the school at the end of July 2015 for whom the school will still receive funding of £4,909.
The shortfall of funding is £1,251. The school receives funding of £1,320 per KS2 pupil and a reduced rate of £935 per KS3 pupil.
One pupil in Year 5 became eligible for PPG in March 2016; the school will receive funding for this pupil in April 2017.
