My name is Naomi and I am the leader for the First Standon and Puckeridge Brownie unit. Brownies is extremely popular with the girls in the village but unfortunately it is in real danger of closing due to lack of adult volunteer helpers and unit leaders.
Brownies is a community for girls aged between 7 years and 10 years to learn, grow and make new friends in a safe space whilst having fun. We meet on Tuesday evenings, 6 pm to 7.30 pm at the Standon Village Hall, opposite St Marys Church. BUT it will potentially close in summer due to lack of volunteer helpers and leaders.
It is very rewarding and always high energy. Past activities include: whizzing down a dry ski slope on giant fun rings; completing badges such as Healthy Heart, Entertainer, and Science Investigator; making fairy dust; tackling some origami; pond dipping; and even a sleepover at a zoo! If the unit stays open, we have activity days and pack holidays to enjoy along with a myriad of exciting evenings.
It is so popular that for every place that becomes available, there are up to 4 girls keen to join.
If you are committed and reliable, and have enthusiasm, then I would love to hear from you. If you know anyone who would be willing and able to help then please encourage them to contact me. You do not need to have a daughter in the Brownies, nor have been a Brownie (or in Girlguiding) yourself to be able to help. There is no upper age limit or even gender restrictions.
