Year 4 into Year 5
In Year 5 students join us from many different schools. To help your child make a smooth transition to Ralph Sadleir School we try and make each child feel welcome.
Once your place has been confirmed, the transition process begins when the Pupil Progress Co-ordinator for Year 5 visits the pupil at their current primary school. The purpose of this visit is to find out as much information about each pupil as possible, including academic strengths and any sporting interests. The Pupil Progress Co-ordinator will also have a discussion with the child about what life is like at Ralph Sadleir School, and answer any questions they may have about their new school. New pupils to the school are also welcome to come and visit the school at a separate time for a special tour, so they feel more comfortable with their new school surroundings, and this also provides opportunities for both parents and the pupil to ask further questions.
In the last part of the term before your child joins the school, an open evening will be held and you and your child will be invited to attend. This is an opportunity for you to meet the Year 5 tutors and find out more about the school and what our expectations are and also receive your Parents Handbook which provides essential information about the school that is needed by new parents and students alike.
All pupils who will be starting in Year 5 then spend a full day in July experiencing what life will be like in Year 5. The Transition Day includes some time with their new form tutor, some sample lessons. This day helps to start the process of building new friendships which will support pupils in the new academic year. It also provides an opportunity for pupils to meet some of their new teachers and learn a bit about the layout of the school.
