Keeping Safe in Relationships
Misogyny
As our children navigate the transition from childhood to their teenage years they are beginning to form a deeper understanding of the world around them. This is a crucial time for personal growth, and as a school, we believe it is our responsibility to address the complex issues they encounter online and in social circles—specifically, the importance of challenging misogyny.
At the heart of our curriculum are our five key values. Addressing misogyny isn’t just about “rules”; it’s about bringing these values to life:
Confidence: When we dismantle limiting gender stereotypes, we give our students the confidence to be their authentic selves without fear of judgement.
Determination: Challenging long-standing prejudices takes real grit. We encourage our students to show determination in standing up for what is right, even when it feels difficult or unfashionable to do so. We want them to be determined in their pursuit of a fair and equal society.
Kindness: Misogyny often hides behind “banter” that can be exclusionary. We encourage students to lead with empathy, understanding that their words have the power to either build others up or break them down.
Respect: True respect means valuing everyone equally. By teaching students to recognize and challenge sexist language, we foster an environment where every girl and boy feels safe.
Responsibility: In a digital age of harmful algorithms, we teach students the responsibility of being critical thinkers—empowering them to “call it out” and be a positive influence.
We aren’t just teaching “facts”; we are shaping character. By discussing these topics openly, we provide a safe space for students to ask questions and unlearn harmful ideas they may have encountered online. We encourage you to continue these conversations at home. By working together, we can ensure our young people grow into respectful, kind, and determined citizens who champion equality for everyone
