Keeping Well in Times of Crisis
At Ralph Sadleir, we provide a compassionate safety net for those facing life’s most difficult hurdles. During times of bereavement or crisis, we foster the resilience needed to move forward and the determination to seek help when it is needed most. Through our pastoral care and specialised leads, we show kindness and respect to families navigating loss or struggle, ensuring no one feels alone. By building these support systems, we ensure our ‘Citizens of Tomorrow’ have the confidence to face adversity and remain supported members of our school community.
Self-Harm & Suicide Prevention:
Discovering a child is self-harming can be deeply distressing, but it is often a way of coping with intense emotional pain rather than a desire to end life. Sometimes children may lack the words for their distress. At Ralph Sadleir we promote a compassionate, non-judgmental response, focusing on identifying triggers and building healthier emotional outlets. Together, we can provide the safety and professional support that children need to heal.
Bereavement:
Grief is a natural response to loss, yet for children, it can feel confusing and isolating. Children may oscillate between deep sadness and normal play, a process often called “puddle jumping.” Ralph Sadleir provides a compassionate space for students to process their emotions at their own pace. By offering honest information and stable routines, we can help your child navigate their journey toward healing and resilience.
Drugs & Alcohol:
As children enter their pre-teen years, their curiosity about the world grows. Our approach to drugs and alcohol focuses on prevention through education and honest dialogue. We aim to empower students with the facts about physical health and the social pressures they may face. By fostering a home and school environment where no question is “off-limits,” we help our students build the confidence to make safe, informed choices for their wellbeing.
