RS Pupils turn Pros!
Four lucky pupils from the School Newspaper group were very lucky to spend a morning at the Herts Mercury
office.
Charlotte, Maisie, Sadie and Lamis sat in on an editorial conference with the Editor, Julie Palmer and her reporters, to discuss the newly released papers and whether the stories printed were good choices. Tips were given on how stories are chosen and placed within the paper, that page 3 is always a happy, cheerful story with a good image, and what a DPS is (double page spread but several stories about the same subject).
The girls were then tasked to interview staff around the office and then write an article about their visit.
The article appeared that morning on the Herts Mercury website, Twitter and Facebook – click here to read the article.
Helpful tips were gathered to take back to fellow Ralphie Reporters and ideas of how to improve our school paper were written down.
All staff at the Herts Mercury were very friendly and accommodating and gave the girls an experience they will not forget. We thank Julie and her team for giving our pupils this fantastic
opportunity.
