Herts Mercury Editor pays our Ralphie Reporters a visit.
On Thursday 26th May, the reporters of the school newspaper welcomed the Editor of the Herts Mercury, Julie Palmer.
Eager to soak up as much information and tips as they could from the expert, the reporters came armed with pads of paper and pens and listened intently to everything Julie had to say.
Julie explained what each part of the front page of a newspaper is called – for example, the main story is called the ‘splash’. She
demonstrated some shorthand and gave handy tips on how to research and write a great story.
Four lucky reporters have been invited to the Herts Mercury offices in June for an opportunity to sit in on an editorial meeting and help decide on what stories will run. We will report more on that trip next month.
A huge thank you goes to Julie for giving
up her time and for giving us a lot to think about for our school newspaper.
